PRODUCER SPOT LIGHT: CHICAGO LEGEND “ANDY C” ( @SoulMusicAndyC )

Share

Name: ANDY C
City: Chicago/LA
Twitter: @SOULMUSICANDYC

This time around we shine the producer spotlight on the genius of Chicago producer/ engineer/ arranger/DJ/ musician Andy C. Known and respected as the Godfather of music production in his city (a name given to him by his peers), Andy C is arguably the only producer from Chi-Town who has had influence or put his touches on almost every established Chicago producer or artist the city has to offer. Familiar names such as NO.ID, Kanye West, Common, Shawnna, Crucial Conflict, Xtreme, Psyde of PsychoDrama and many more have all drank from the cup that is Andy C (some more than others). He is an extremely low key guy whose humble beginnings or better yet, his involvement in everyone else’s humble beginnings comes off as if his contribution was nothing more than a mere neighborly gesture. Throughout his career he has received 3 platinum plaques and worked with, engineered or produced artists as diverse as Mary J Blige, Raekwon, Janet Jackson and The Temptations to Patrice Rushen, Vince Lawrence, Ramsey Lewis and Babyface. He also produced, spearheaded and conceptualized the critically acclaimed album Music For A Saturday Evening by BSTC. BSTC is short for BlackStone Theatre Collective, a name that pays homage to the BlackStone Theatre, which was home to some of Chicago’s most memorable House music parties. The BSTC sound incorporated Soul, Disco, Hip Hop and Jazz to create an eclectic sound as diverse as Andy C’s resume. The lead vocalist of BSTC included one of Chicago’s most accomplished, yet little known talents Keanna Johnson aka KJ Rose, a BET Music Matters artists who has toured and/or sang back-up for music’s hottest stars including R. Kelly, Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Notorious B.I.G., Ma$e, Carl Thomas, Common, Dead Prez, Monica and Keith Sweat. Andy C continues to work quietly behind the scenes with various high profile clients/projects including music by well-known Chicago Actor Wood Harris best known for his roles as drug kingpin Avon Barksdale (HBO’s The Wire), and Julius Campbell (Remember the Titans).
